With its latest update, WhatsApp replaced its traditional text status feature with the “Stories” section.
Originally introduced by Snapchat, the “Stories” feature was later integrated into Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. However, given that WhatsApp is primarily a messaging app, this change sparked significant user backlash.
The rollout of the Stories feature led to the removal of the text status option that users had enjoyed since WhatsApp’s launch. The sudden disappearance of this beloved feature caused a strong reaction among users. In response to this feedback, WhatsApp decided to bring back the text status update.
Now, WhatsApp users can once again update their status in text form through their profile settings. Users can also continue to use the Stories feature, sharing photos, videos, or GIF-based statuses.
How to Update Your Status:
- Open the Settings section in WhatsApp.
- Tap on your username.
- Navigate to the “About and phone number” section.
- Enter your status as a text or emoji in this field.
- Alternatively, choose from the list of predefined status updates.
Additional Features in the Update:
Alongside the return of text statuses, WhatsApp introduced new functionalities for video sharing.
- Stream Videos While Downloading: You can now watch videos immediately without waiting for them to finish downloading. The video will continue downloading in the background as you watch.
- Improved Camera Lighting: While taking photos or videos in low-light conditions, tap the moon icon in the camera interface to adjust lighting.
- 3D Touch for Photo Editing: Users can now use 3D Touch to crop and edit photos directly within WhatsApp before saving or sharing.
As WhatsApp continues to evolve, users eagerly await more updates and features the platform will introduce in the future.
