Instagram has begun testing a feature that allows users to tag people in videos. Similar to photo tagging, this process will require a little extra effort to view the tagged individuals. Users will need to click on a small icon in the bottom-left corner to see the list of tagged users. Unlike photos, tagged videos will not appear on the tagged user’s profile page. This feature will only be available on Instagram’s mobile app.
Currently in its testing phase, Instagram has provided limited information about the update. While only a small percentage of users can access the feature now, it is expected to roll out to all users in the coming days. An Instagram spokesperson stated, “We are always testing new ways to improve your Instagram experience.”
Instagram has allowed photo tagging since 2013, but the platform hasn’t provided a clear explanation as to why it took so long to enable video tagging. However, the growing popularity of video content in recent years may have necessitated this development.
Once video tagging is fully implemented, it is expected to boost interaction among tagged users. Brands, too, could leverage this feature to create more precise product promotions, while content creators can use it to connect with brands more effectively.
