Alongside popular messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and iMessage, WhatsApp users can now create and share their own GIFs.
WhatsApp, in collaboration with Giphy, has introduced the much-anticipated GIF feature with its latest iOS update. With this new feature, WhatsApp users can now create their own GIFs and share them with their contacts.
To send a GIF via Giphy while chatting, click the “+” icon in the lower-left corner of the screen. Then, select Photo & Library from the menu and click on the “Search GIFs” option in the lower-left corner. From there, you can choose and share a GIF with your contact.
As one of the world’s leading messaging apps, WhatsApp continues to innovate. Unlike its competitors, WhatsApp offers not only GIF sharing and playback support but also a GIF creation feature. To create a GIF from a video that is 6 seconds or shorter, select the video in WhatsApp’s sharing screen, trim it as needed, and use the GIF toggle button to complete your sharing.
Live Photos Sharing Is Also Available
With its latest update, WhatsApp also supports sharing Live Photos, introduced with the iPhone 6S. Using the 3D Touch feature on your iPhone, you can select a Live Photo and swipe up to choose either Photo or GIF for sharing. Selecting GIF will automatically convert the Live Photo into GIF format for sharing.
This update is currently available for iOS users. iPhone and iPad users can access these new features by updating their apps. While there is no official announcement about when Android users will receive GIF support, it is expected to be available to them soon.
