Instagram, known for its innovative features like “Stories,” continues to introduce new experiences for its users. In an announcement on Instagram’s official blog yesterday, the platform unveiled two new features: the ability to share photos and videos that disappear automatically after a certain time through Stories and Direct Messages, and the much-anticipated live streaming feature.
After successfully rolling out the Stories feature, Instagram is now offering its 100 million daily users the opportunity to engage in live streaming, following the footsteps of platforms like Facebook.
How to Go Live on Instagram?
Instagram’s live streaming feature is accessible through the Stories section. To start a live broadcast:
- Tap the camera icon in the top-left corner.
- Swipe right to select the Live option.
Once your live stream begins, your followers will receive a notification. During the broadcast, you can:
- Receive comments from your viewers and pin comments that you like.
- Disable comments altogether if you prefer.
Live broadcasts are marked with a “LIVE” badge under Stories, making it easy for followers to identify live sessions. Additionally, popular live streams and broadcasts from people you don’t follow can be viewed through the Explore section.
As with other Instagram features, live broadcasts are temporary. Your live stream will remain visible for approximately 1 hour.
You can also track how many followers viewed your broadcast, just as you would with your Stories.
Self-Destructing Photo and Video Messages
In addition to live streaming, Instagram has enhanced its Direct Messages feature, allowing users to send photos and videos that disappear automatically after being viewed.
Key features of this update include:
- If someone attempts to take a screenshot of your content, you’ll be instantly notified.
- Photos and videos sent via Direct Messages can only be viewed twice before disappearing.
- These disappearing messages are fully under your control, helping maintain privacy and security.
Instagram began rolling out these updates yesterday, with plans to gradually extend them to all users. This latest enhancement underscores Instagram’s commitment to creating a dynamic and engaging social media experience.
