Instagram recently announced that it would begin rolling out advertising features. With preparations now complete, Instagram will launch its first advertising campaigns in Turkey starting September 30th. As Turkey’s third-largest social media platform after Facebook and Twitter, Instagram plans to integrate advertisements in a way that won’t disrupt user experience or cause annoyance.
What are Instagram Ads, and How Do They Work?
After extensive testing and positive feedback from companies, combined with the rising number of mobile users and growing trends in online shopping, Instagram is poised to become a critical platform for brands. To use Instagram ads, you’ll need a Facebook advertising account.
Instagram ads are gradually being made available and will soon expand to accommodate all businesses. These ads can be managed through both the Instagram API and Facebook’s Power Editor.
Advertisers can create Instagram ads using Power Editor or the Facebook API. The ads will appear seamlessly in users’ feeds, displayed among posts shared by Instagram accounts. You’ll have the option to design your ads in square or landscape formats.
One notable feature is Instagram’s Carousel Ads, which will appear as sponsored posts. These ads allow users to swipe through multiple images within a single ad. Buttons placed below the images will guide users to learn more about the product or service, encouraging interaction and sales.
Key Features of Instagram Ads:
- Sponsored Label: A “Sponsored” tag will be visible in the upper-right corner of ads.
- Call-to-Action Buttons: Located beneath the image, these buttons encourage users to take specific actions.
- Ad Descriptions: Descriptive text can be added below the image and call-to-action button.
- Targeted Ads: Instagram will prioritize ads relevant to users’ interests based on their activity on Instagram and Facebook, such as posts, likes, and shared information.
Managing Ads:
- Don’t like an ad? Use the “Hide Ad” option in the top-right corner to hide it.
- From the Settings menu, you can manage ad preferences and restrict ads from non-Instagram or Facebook sources.
Who Can Advertise on Instagram?
Anyone can advertise on Instagram, but you’ll need a Facebook advertising account. Ads created through Facebook will be tailored and displayed on Instagram in the desired format.
Instagram follows Facebook’s Ad Guidelines, and advertisers are required to adhere to these rules. Ads are reviewed before publication to ensure compliance with the policies. Typically, advertisers receive feedback within 24 hours, though in rare cases, it may take longer.
Ads with misleading content, copyright violations, illegal products, sexual content, or violent material will not be approved. Additionally, text-heavy images that overshadow visuals will not be allowed.
Instagram’s First Advertisers in Turkey:
Starting September 30th, six brands will launch their campaigns on Instagram in Turkey: Boyner Online, Pantene (a P&G brand), Trendyol & Modagram, Turkcell’s messaging app BiP, Turkish Airlines, and Vodafone.
The advertising categories are already shaping up, with e-commerce, travel, entertainment, and retail emerging as initial focus areas.
Stay tuned for updates on the first campaigns and future developments in Instagram’s advertising features!
