A while ago, Facebook began offering users free Wi-Fi in exchange for checking in at businesses. Initially targeting small businesses, the project has now expanded to include larger establishments like hotels and stores, thanks to a partnership between Facebook and Cisco.
Under Facebook’s free and fast Wi-Fi project, users can connect to the internet simply by logging into their Facebook accounts, without needing to ask for the wireless network password of the business they’re visiting. The only requirement is to check in to the business’s Facebook page.
Facebook started testing this project about a year ago with partnered small businesses. According to Reuters, Facebook is now preparing to roll out this free Wi-Fi service to larger businesses through its collaboration with Cisco. Facebook Wi-Fi, which is already installed in over 1,000 businesses across 50+ countries, will grow even further with this agreement.
This service also brings significant benefits to businesses. Business owners will be able to view insights about users who check in to their location, such as their age, gender, hometown, interests, and native language, through Facebook Insights. With a better understanding of their customers’ profiles, businesses will be able to analyze their target audience more effectively and leverage this data to improve their campaigns and marketing strategies.
